Knit Mailbox II

One of my most popular knits has been the knit mailbox, which looks complex to create but is surprisingly easy, especially given the great instructions provided in Teeny Tiny Mochimochi.  For my second mailbox attempt, I decided to use some brighter colors, so instead of the typical red mailbox flag, I used pink.  Instead of a white envelop, I used bright blue.  I consider this my pop art mailbox.

And in one of the pictures below, you will find a gnome checking his mail.  Yes, gnomes get mail too (via GPS - the gnome postal service).

Knit Cactus II

I have knit a cactus from the Teeny Tiny Mochimochi book previously, but on my second go-round in the book, I decided to change up some of the colors and try something a little different.  I've made a slightly lighter cactus (not bright green this time) and he's got green spikes.  Don't worry about that though - he's a gentle cactus.  In fact, this cactus' favorite past time is volunteering at the local animal hospital, frolicking through the woods, and practicing yoga - so he's not quite as prickly as his appearances may indicate.  Never judge a cactus by his pokers.

Tiny Knit R2D2

A friend had a request, and it seemed simple at first:  knit an R2D2.  After all, R2D2 is pretty much just a cylinder with some attachments.  So I took up the challenge and looked at some R2D2 patterns.  Unfortunately, most of them were for crochet, which is not my medium of choice (obviously).  After thinking about it for a while, I ended up looking at a number of patterns and kind of making one up myself.

As someone that has never seen Star Wars, this was a bit of a challenge since R2D2 is such a classic character.  I didn't know any of the visual cues that would indicate that my creation is truly R2D2.

I present the final product, which is now living happy with Laura.  I have received confirmation from several bona fide Star Wars fans that have indicate that, yes, my R2D2 is recognizable and even pretty cute!  Below are a few more pictures.

Tiny Hamburger

The quintessential summer food: the hamburger.  What better way to celebrate the final weeks of summer than with an adorable knit hamburger.  You may recognize this little guy from the wonderful pictures taken by my med student friend.  I've taken a few solo pictures of the knit hamburger to share as well.  I'll let you be the judge of whose pictures are better (I'd say, hands down, hers a better).

Tiny Airplane 2

While I've previously posted a picture of an airplane I had knit (that now is living in Seattle), we all know that you can't just knit a single airplane - you need a fleet.  Today, I present to you the upgraded version of the airplane:  still no leg room or in-flight meals, but this airplane does come with wi-fi.  

This is the airplane the tiny gnome uses to get around to his various knitting activities, so you know it's a quality flight, as long as you're made of yarn.

Happy Knit Recipient #2

Medical school is hard.  No, it's really hard.  That's why I think it's absolutely awe-inspiring that my good friend from college, Jia, is studying medicine at one of the best schools in the world.  Jia is also an incredibly creative and fun person, so when I sent her some Mochimochi, she sent me back some really great photos.  While I tend to use a plain white background for taking pictures of these knit creations, Jia went the extra mile (and then some) and took the following.  Thanks so much for the great pictures, Jia!

Tiny Knit Zombie

The beautiful of the Teeny Tiny Mochimochi is how the author of the books and patterns has a fantastic sense of humor and channels this into creating really interesting knitting patterns.  Probably the most beloved is the gnome, but I think that the zombie is equally cute.  

We're going to go with Francois for this zombie's name.  He used to be a sous chef in a famous Mexican restaurant but then passed away from an unfortunate Muenster cheese accident.  Regardless, he still remains active in the kitchen, specializing in desserts and baked goods in the afterlife.
